ICMJE Journals Uniform Disclosure Form for Potential Conflicts of Interest

Georgetown University Medical Center

Office of the Executive Vice President  for Health Sciences and Executive Dean

October 14, 2009

Dear Members of the GUMC Community:

The editors of several major journals on Tuesday announced that all journals published by members of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) will now use an identical financial disclosure form. The form and instructions are being placed in the public domain (see link below) and other journals are being urged to adopt this reporting format.

An editorial making the announcement was published simultaneously in the journals of the ICMJE. The editorial recognizes that the disclosure form may be implemented differently based on journal and author needs (for example, some journals may request the form at the time of submission and others later in the editorial process).

The journals using the new form include the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, JAMA, the Annals of Internal Medicine, BMJ, and others.

Additional information can be found here.

This announcement authorized by the Executive Vice President for Health Sciences and Executive Dean.
