Guidelines for InvestigatorsWhen submitting an application to GUACUC, please be sure to check all the appropriate boxes and obtain the necessary signatures. Please submit the original and two copies of your forms to the GUACUC office. In addition to these copies, you have the option to submit electronic versions of your protocol as an email attachment to sbt25@georgetown.edu. Your submission is first processed by the GUACUC office. The Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) veterinarians review the protocols and the GUACUC Chair assigns the GUACUC primary and secondary reviewers. At the monthly meeting, each submission is carefully reviewed by the full Committee. The letters reflecting committee action are hand carried from the GUACUC office to the Principal Investigator (PI) and an email notification will also be sent to the PI. When the Committee requests a response from a PI who has submitted a new protocol, that PI is given two months to respond. The Committee may archive the submission if the PI does not respond in 60 days. Animals cannot be ordered until the Committee has approved the PI response. When the Committee requests a response from the PI who has submitted a 3-year resubmission of an expiring protocol, it is the PI's responsibility to respond in sufficient time for the Committee to review and approve the response before the old protocol expires. Allow at least two weeks for Committee review of the PI response. Animals cannot be ordered from the old protocol once it has expired, and animals cannot be ordered from the pending new protocol until the Committee has approved the PI response. Regulatory agencies do not allow the GUACUC to grant extensions to expired protocols. Your prompt response to correspondence from the GUACUC is necessary to keep your protocols and our records current. On all correspondence (email, fax, mail or hand delivery) be sure to write the protocol number, the name of the PI assigned to the protocol, and whether correspondence refers to a Protocol or an Amendment. For more detailed information on the process for submitting new protocols, amendments, annual renewals and the resubmission of a protocol, please consult the Protocol Submission Guidelines page. Please contact Sally Tyree-Brumley, GUACUC Administrator, if you need additional information. She can be reached in person in Basic Science Building, Room 247, by phone at 202.687.2164, and by email at sbt25@georgetown.edu. |
